Baby Beel (Beelzebub)

Originally introduced as a fierce disciplinarian, Akeno eventually grew a soft spot and even felt compassionate towards her peers. Disregarding her job, Akeno was even shown to be quite docile in contrast with her strict personality at first. Compared to other Lucky Star characters, she’s shy, embarrassed and lacking in confidence. Especially when it comes to how “developed” she is compared to girls her age.

Cute Anime Girls You’ll LOVE! (Waifus)

Alpha is friendly without being overwhelming, which is a welcome contrast to the numerous lovely characters who frequently verge on being too sweet. Because of this, when her owner departed, she declined to travel with him. She is 10 at the beginning, then she becomes 14 in the first time-skip, and 18 in the second.

In extremely unusual circumstances, she can display genuine generosity toward other people and even fall in love. Lelouch frequently makes fun of her for her egotism, obstinacy, and stubbornness, which she demonstrates throughout the series. This aspect of her personality provides an interesting contrast to her more natural self. Although this may give the impression that she is immature, she is the most maternal character in the series.

Out of this list, we’d have to say the most famous green haired anime girl is probably San from Princess Mononoke. This unstable green haired anime character takes us on a very interesting journey, which we won’t get into too much as it’ll definitely spoil the plot. A shattered young woman and we can see with her how much work must be done to put someone so broken back together, if possible. This green haired anime character may seem cute, but her usual chipper self is only a fraction of her character.

Eureka (Eureka Seven)

green hair anime girl

While she struggles with human interaction at first, throughout the series, she experiences a lot of growth, even becoming an adoptive mother to three orphaned children. Although she’s not a warrior like other characters, she will fight if necessary and is willing to do whatever she can to make a difference. With her cat-ear-style pigtails, this girl is one of the most cheerful members of her class, and fans can’t help but be drawn to her. Kido is a mysterious green-haired character and leader of the Mekakushi Dan.

Eureka

The story of C.C.’s journey is well told, which is one of the contributing factors that help make her one of the most interesting green-haired girls on this list. Her true shape is that of a much older woman with much longer hair, although she appears to be a young child with green hair who goes by the name Nel Tu. Mion is one half of the yandere twin duo (her sister being the infamous Shion). Despite being completely different from each other, the two are able to frequently confuse people around them by switching places.

Kayano has a surprisingly dark underbelly of bloodlust that comes out in battle. Of all the green-haired anime girls on this list, Lucoa is one of the most interesting. And better yet – her character design is unique from head to toe. Here are my picks for the best anime characters with green hair, whether there's a hidden meaning in the color, and why they're great.

Baby Beel may be cute and sweet, but he's still ultimately a demon who's destined to drive humanity to extinction. Despite being a baby, Baby Beel has shown several powerful feats that are often triggered involuntarily, like when he's in distress. These feats include electrocuting his babysitters and flooding the town with his pee.

In contrast to the white and gold of her undine attire, Alice’s beautiful emerald green hair and vivid blue eyes show out particularly well. C.C., pronounced C2, is one of the most popular anime characters, even voted as the most popular female character in 2007 and 2008. Tatsumaki is a beautiful character; with her medium-length green hair and bright green eyes, she immediately stands out in every scene she’s in. Eureka is an AI that appears in the form of a human woman with short mint green hair and bright purple eyes. Her dark green hair is tied low into a bow shape, and her large oval eyes and large mouth give her an extremely unusual look. You may get bowled over by the peculiar shaped pastel green hair, but this anime character represents absolute strength and authority.

Shion is the twin sister of Mion, but unlike her cheerful sister, she tends to be much more shrewd, manipulative, and envious. She loves her dog — which automatically makes her great –, but while walking him, her story takes a shocking turn that will have fans on the edge of their seats. Ritsuko has some of the most impressive hair on this list, incredibly long and twisted like a lightning strike reaching to her knees. Throughout her series, more of her abilities and past are uncovered, making her an incredibly interesting character who is easily invested in. Her tongue can even be extended to 20 meters and is strong enough to lift a whole person.

Biden signs bill that could ban TikTok into law, setting up legal battle

plaque house numbers

But some have pushed back, including Democratic Sen. Edward Markey of Massachusetts. He said on the Senate floor on Tuesday that there is "no credible evidence" that TikTok presents a real national security threat just because its parent company is based in China. The legislation gave TikTok a six-month window to find a buyer, which some senators said was too little time. Any company, or set of investors, angling to purchase TikTok would have to receive the blessing of the Chinese government, and officials in Beijing have strongly resisted a forced sell. Far-right Republicans have also adamantly opposed sending more money for Ukraine.

U.S. announces new Patriot missiles for Ukraine as part of $6-billion aid package

The administration and a bipartisan group of lawmakers have called the social media site a growing national security concern. Tucked into the measure is a provision that gives TikTok’s Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance, nine months to sell it or face a nationwide prohibition in the United States. The president can grant a one-time extension of 90 days, bringing the timeline to sell to one year, if he certifies that there’s a path to divestiture and “significant progress” toward executing it. TikTok already has a strong record in similar First Amendment battles. TikTok’s case will probably lean on the First Amendment, legal experts said. The company is expected to argue that a forced sale could violate its users’ free speech rights because a new owner could change the app’s content policies and reshape what users are able to freely share on the platform.

More From the Los Angeles Times

Biden in August requested more than $20 billion to keep aid flowing into Ukraine, but the money was stripped out of a must-pass spending bill even as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Washington to make a personal plea for continued U.S. backing. At the time, the House was in chaos because the Republican majority had been unable to select a speaker to replace Rep. Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield, who had been removed more than two weeks earlier. McCarthy’s ouster by the GOP’s far right came after he agreed earlier to allow federal spending levels that many far-right House Republicans disagreed with and wanted undone. The White House maneuvering to win additional funding for Ukraine started months earlier. Chinese officials criticized a similar bill after the House passed it in March, although they have not yet said whether they would block a divestment.

Chinese export regulations appear to cover TikTok’s content recommendation algorithm, giving Beijing a say in whether ByteDance could sell or license the app’s most valuable feature. Technically the new street numbers also made sense, but you'd need a pretty big slide rule to measure from First and Main in downtown L.A. (It's the reason all house numbers in the SCV get higher as you travel north or west.) The Newhall Signal advised measuring "from the number of the CHP Station south of town, which is 18110." The Santa Clarita Valley was one of the last unincorporated territories to make the change.

Breaking off just the U.S. portion of TikTok could prove particularly challenging. The app's recommendation algorithm, which figures out what users like and serves up content, is key to the success of the app. The legislation prohibits any connection between ByteDance and TikTok after a sale. Yet TikTok employees use ByteDance software in their communications, and the company’s employees are global, with executives in Singapore, Dublin, Los Angeles and Mountain View, Calif.

At frustrating moments during the negotiations, Biden urged his aides to “just keep talking, keep working,” according to the official, who requested anonymity to discuss internal discussions. It’s unclear if ByteDance would consider selling TikTok’s entire global footprint or just its U.S. operations, where the company has nearly 7,000 employees. The issue could take months or even years to settle, during which the app would probably continue to function for U.S. consumers. Sand Canyon was renumbered in 1956, and the changeover was complete in 1957 when the county imposed the unified house numbering system on the more rural areas of Saugus, Solemint (today's Canyon Country) and Agua Dulce.

Earlier, the White House publicized intelligence that Russia had acquired ballistic missiles from North Korea and acquired attack drones from Iran. By late October, Republicans finally settled on Johnson, a low-profile lawmaker whose thinking on Ukraine was opaque, to serve as the next speaker. Biden during his congratulatory call with Johnson urged him to quickly pass Ukraine aid and began a months-long, largely behind-the-scenes effort to bring the matter to a vote. The Senate approved the measure 79 to 18 late Tuesday as part of a sprawling package offering aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, with the House having passed it Saturday. Biden confirmed that he signed the bill into law during a White House address on Wednesday, though he did not directly address the language targeting TikTok.

About a year ago, China’s commerce ministry said it would “firmly oppose” a sale of the app by ByteDance. During Mr. Trump’s attempt to force a sale in 2020, the Chinese government issued export restrictions that appeared to require its regulators to grant permission before ByteDance algorithms could be sold or licensed to outsiders. So, in 1945, the Board of Supervisors imposed a system of house numbers for all unincorporated areas (including the SCV), radiating out from First and Main streets in downtown Los Angeles. For incorporated cities, the decision to adopt the county's system was left to city councils, and most did.

"When the powers that be down in Ellay [L.A.] first served notice on the village that it was going to have its village street numbers cancelled and be given some new, big city numbers, nobody paid attention," Signal owner Fred Trueblood Sr. editorialized (August 11, 1955). "The news was broken in the Signal issue of July 14. Nary a yip was raised about it." Prices and availability of products and services are subject to change without notice. Errors will be corrected where discovered, and Lowe's reserves the right to revoke any stated offer and to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions including after an order has been submitted. Size, font, finish and degree of contrast will play a role in how well your plaque can be read.

The law stipulates that ByteDance must sell its stake in TikTok in 12 months under the threat of being shut down. Still, the law is not expected to cause any immediate disruption to TikTok, as a forthcoming legal challenge, and various hurdles to selling the app, will most likely cause months of delay. For example, U.S. officials this month laid out intelligence findings that showed China has surged sales to Russia of machine tools, microelectronics and other technology that Moscow in turn is using to produce missiles, tanks, aircraft and other weaponry.

Private equity firms or other investors could form a group to raise enough money to buy TikTok. Former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in March that he wanted to build such a group. And anyone who can pony up the money still has to pass muster with the U.S. government, which needs to sign off on any purchase. Other groups, like the American Civil Liberties Union, which has been a vocal opponent of the bill, may also join the legal fight. A spokeswoman for the A.C.L.U. said on Tuesday that the group was still weighing its role in potential litigation challenging the law.

House numbers were never really thought of again — until 1990 when a whippersnapper from the newfangled Santa Clarita City Council hatched a plan to change them back. In that sense, it was a bit like the expansion of Valencia west of Interstate 5 in the 21st Century. The impending change was announced in the weekly newspaper July 14, 1955, but it still caught locals off-guard when the change arrived "overnight" a month later. The change came to Newhall and Saugus "proper" in the summer of 1955 at the request of the Newhall Chamber of Commerce and a motion by County Supervisor Roger Jessup.

"Congress is not acting to punish ByteDance, TikTok or any other individual company," said Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell, who chairs the Senate Commerce Committee, in remarks on the Senate floor Tuesday afternoon. Deeply reported insights into legislation, politics and policy from Sacramento, Washington and beyond. Steve Ricchetti, counselor to the president, and legislative affairs director Shuwanza Goff were in regular contact with Johnson. Goff and Johnson’s senior staff also spoke frequently as a deal came into focus. In a daily meeting convened by White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, the president’s top aides — seated around a big oval table in Zients’ office — would brainstorm possible ways to better make the case about Ukraine’s dire situation in the absence of aid.

The White House also sought to accommodate Johnson and his various asks. For instance, administration officials at the speaker’s request briefed Reps. Chip Roy (R-Texas) and Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), two hard-right members who were persistent antagonists of Johnson. On explicit orders from Biden, White House officials also avoided directly attacking Johnson over the stalled aid — a directive the president repeatedly instilled in his senior staff.

Professors at public universities challenged the ban in court last year, saying it blocked them from doing research on the app. A federal judge upheld the state ban in December, finding it was a “reasonable restriction” in light of Texas’ concerns and the narrow scope affecting only state employees. President Biden has signed the bill to force a sale of the video app or ban it. Now the law faces court challenges, a shortage of qualified buyers and Beijing’s hostility.

Biden, the day after returning from a whirlwind trip to Tel Aviv following the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack on Israel, used a rare prime time address to make his pitch for the supplemental funding. Former President Trump, the presumptive 2024 presidential GOP nominee, has long criticized U.S. support for Ukraine and has defended Putin. More recently he’s complained that European allies have not done enough for Ukraine. While he stopped short of endorsing the supplemental funding package, his tone has shifted in recent days, acknowledging that Ukraine’s survival is important to the United States. TikTok said will wage a legal challenge against what it called an “unconstitutional” effort by Congress. But longer term, it remains uncertain whether Ukraine — after months of losses in eastern Ukraine and sustaining massive damage to its infrastructure — can make enough progress to sustain U.S. political support before burning through the latest influx of money.

Leveraging e-Bidding Software for Design-Build Contracts Engineering News-Record

design to build

Limiting your prospective builders to hard-dollar bids before they have a chance to get into the project can lead to misleading and uncertain estimates. A team working together from start to finish in open communication and purposeful collaboration to deliver otherwise unachievable results. It’s the notion that when owners sit at the same table with architects, builders, engineers and estimators, great ideas — the best ideas — are born. And the way is paved for creative solutions to take hold, resulting in costs minimized, schedules streamlined and efficiencies realized. The "design–builder" is often a general contractor, but in many cases a project is led by a design professional (architect, engineer, architectural technologist or other professional designers). Some design–build firms employ professionals from both the design and construction sector.

Premortem/ Opportunities & Risks

Although the benefits are clear, only a few landscape architecture firms offer the design-build approach. Surrounds is both a landscape architecture firm and a landscape construction firm. Our architects know construction and our construction crews understand design. Your project benefits from the formal training and a broader range of capabilities of a professional landscape architect who will design and oversee the construction of your project. For example, when the budget is near the limit, design-build landscape architects know where to find flexibility in the design.

More Collaboration = Less Risk and Mistakes

Design-build vs. traditional project delivery systems

The client or owner also oversees the entire budget, even though each contractor and subcontractor acts as its own entity. This increases the chance of scope creep because these parties work separately without the responsibility for the overall budget and project. Design-bid-build is the most traditional project delivery method and appeals to those looking for low-cost bids. Then the owner solicits bids from contractors to perform the documented scope of work.

The success of the entire project will be their goal, as opposed to the success of just their area of expertise. This motivates them to work together from the start, looking at the big-picture success of the project. Our connected global construction platform unites all stakeholders on a project with unlimited access to support and a business model designed for the construction industry. Project changes can lead to significant turmoil when multiple parties are involved under separate contracts, as each tries to shift the responsibility and increased costs off to the others. The combative nature of the change process can lead to delays and increased costs. Owners and design-build teams develop strong relationships thanks to the close, collaborative nature of the design-build construction method.

Once your new or renovated facility is complete, your Design-Builder should provide a post-construction handoff. That includes walk-throughs, instructional videos, hands-on training and core documentation for owners, facility managers and facility management teams. Don’t overlook the post-construction handoff, as it’s a critical part of any build. With all the key information in mind, your project team partners with you to identify the right facility, design and construction program to help you achieve your goals within your budget and time constraints. The scope of your project is set, and creative solutions can take shape to help you realize your vision.

Construction Contract Documents: 9 Key Components

Further, the contractor should maintain open books for the owner to check the current schedule, budget adhesion, and any expected delays. Open communication can go a long way to avoiding or minimizing disputes on a project. While a compressed schedule can benefit both owner and design-builder, it does throw a lot of balls in the air for the design-build team. The builders must manage construction while simultaneously consulting on further design.

Risk Mitigation

design to build

It’s a blend of form and function where strategy, vision, aesthetics and technology come together as a complete design that should drive your project to success. While we briefly cover the architectural design process in the next section, we’ve also published a more robust guide to help you get the most from strategic design. The design-build approach to landscape architecture starts with a partnership between the client and the landscape architect.

A design-build landscape architecture firm has that flexibility built into it. We can help our clients get very close to their desired outcome and maintain reasonable control of the budget in the process. These living infrastructure elements not only provide aesthetic value but also offer numerous environmental benefits, such as improving air quality, reducing stormwater runoff and enhancing insulation. By incorporating vegetation into building design, sustainable housing projects can harmonize with nature and contribute to the creation of more resilient and livable cities. By opting for materials that are renewable, nontoxic and locally sourced, homeowners can reduce the carbon footprint of their construction projects while promoting a healthier indoor environment free from harmful chemicals. Design education covers the teaching of theory, knowledge and values in the design of products, services and environments, and focusses on the development of both particular and general skills for designing.

Design-bid-build allows for complete design finalization before bidding, so contractors can sometimes provide more accurate bids and cost projections. Once designs are fully complete, the owner holds a bidding process to decide which general contractor will take on the rest of the process. When the owner awards the project to the contractor, the two parties draw up an agreement and the construction process begins.

In design-bid-build construction, the owner and design team work together to develop the scope, program and design of the project before it goes out to bid. Then the general contractor, subcontractors and material suppliers build per the specified design. The original term for this delivery method was master builder, or master mason. They each provided a seamless service that included what we now refer to as design and construction or, more recently, as design-build. With the traditional delivery method, design-bid-build, the primary, if not only, factor considered in the competition is price. The Design-Build selection process, conversely, puts in place a rigorous competition procedure that focuses on qualifications, experience, technical approach, price and other factors.

Mold Testing & Detection: How to Test for Mold in Your Home

how do i test for mold in my house

After the time has elapsed, label the dish with the date and time of exposure and place it in a dark spot, such as a shelf or drawer. Open the package for your mold testing kit and thoroughly review the instructions. Identify all of the included materials and keep everything accessible for when you need each piece. Although each type of mold has its own species name, most are best known by the categories—such as black mold or pink mold.

Drywall patches generally come in 2′ x 2′ squares, so do not be shy about using a larger piece than you think is necessary. While they do not detect mold, they will detect wet spots inside the wall you may not see. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the most common hazards for household molds affect those with allergies to the mold spores. The most common effects of mold are in the form of respiratory complications. For over 8 years Green Ductors has provided services that aim to improve the ventilation and indoor air quality in homes. However, as we have already mentioned, mold is not always visible and it can be difficult to identify where it may be “thriving”.

Can You Test for Mold in the Air by Yourself? Is There a Device That Can Detect Mold in the Air?

In addition to checking for mold in the home’s HVAC system, it might be wise to consider purchasing an air purifier to help address mold issues. Air purifiers equipped with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters can capture mold spores from the air, preventing them from circulating and settling onto surfaces. Although purchasing an air purifier for mold can reduce airborne mold spores in a house, it won’t address mold growing on surfaces. The root cause of mold is best tackled directly, which could mean improving ventilation, fixing leaks, or using dehumidifiers. Areas in homes that are commonly vulnerable to moisture issues include basements, bathrooms, kitchens, crawl spaces, attics, and the areas around windows or door frames.

Get Testing Supplies Ready

It’s critically important to have both types of detectors in your home, so you’ll want to make sure that your home safety plan monitors both smoke and carbon monoxide. Short-term tests take 90 days or less, while long-term tests can take several months. Continuous tests monitor radon levels at all times and alert you if high levels of radon are detected. If you don’t know if there’s a mold for sure, a complete test can find hidden mold then begin to work on it or give you an all-clear.

This might take several days to receive the results, but it’s worth it to know exactly what you’re dealing with. In the meantime, you can test other rooms in your home to make sure they’re mold-free. Mold is a type of fungus that can grow almost anywhere in your home. It thrives in moist environments with high humidity and temperatures between 77°F and 86°F. It reproduces through tiny spores that travel through the air and can settle and grow on various surfaces.

Doing Multiple Tests

how do i test for mold in my house

Those who are most susceptible are infants, children, seniors and those suffering from pre-existing respiratory illnesses or who have compromised immune systems are more susceptible. If you notice any of these symptoms and you suspect that mold may be the culprit, the best thing to do is to consult a physician who can administer the appropriate tests and treatments. A home’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system plays a pivotal role in ensuring the comfort and air quality of the living space. However, being a conduit for airflow, it can unwittingly become a transporter for mold spores.

The best way to avoid this is to take all the necessary measures to prevent mold from occurring. However, we know that it can be hard to keep track of everything, no matter how much of a cleaner you are. So if you have any suspicions, there are several ways you can test your house for mold. Once the test duration is over, seal the sample according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Exposure to a large amount of mold can sometimes cause a more serious reaction known as hypersensitivitypneumonitis. This type of exposure is usually due to occupational or workplace hazards rather than from exposure to mold in your home. Some researchers have also found that high levels of mold in homes may be a risk factor of asthma in school aged children. In people with asthma, an allergic reaction to mold may trigger an attack.

Health risks associated with mold

how do i test for mold in my house

However, always follow the directions on the test kit for the best results. Having mold in your home won’t necessarily make you sick, but it does have the potential to cause certain health issues. Seal off gaps around doors and windows with painter’s tape to keep the room you are testing in airtight. Keep kids, pets and other adults away from the room while testing is in progress. You can now begin your DIY mold test based on the manufacturer’s instructions.

Absorbent materials (such as ceiling tiles & carpet) that become moldy may have to be replaced. Mold infestations often begin in the walls of a home, only becoming visible as the growth spreads. The first signs may be subtle bubbling, warping, or wrinkling of the paint or wallpaper.

Depending on the model, they may also detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or pollutants such as airborne particulate matter. More advanced indoor air quality monitors may also measure the room’s humidity and temperature. You may feel allergies from mold even if there’s no mold growth or permanent mold in your home. It’s possible to be around mold earlier, in another location or building, then feel it later. Aside from mold, dust, hair, dander, pollen or other stuff which makes air quality poor can have negative effects.

To do this, simply ensure all the water sources in your house are off, such as toilet water stops, faucets, and the water heater isn’t still filling from recent use. Then go out to your water meter, pull the cover, and look at your dial. There will be a large dial that keeps track of large quantity uses and a smaller dial off to one side. If it isn’t turning, you don’t have a leak; if it is, then you do, and a possible mold source. Whether you can smell it yourself, or you or another house member begins to sneeze when they walk into a room, there may be a mold issue growing out of sight in a wall. Have no fear we’ll go over all the things you need to know about mold and your health, where to look for mold, how to help prevent mold, and of course, how to test for mold.

The drawback of these tests is that they only determine the presence of mold on the specific surfaces you test. Mold can grow in surprising places, as well as more expected moisture-prone spots, so you'll need to check all over your home for outbreaks. The best bet is to channel your inner 'damp detective' and patrol troublespots, take photos of the evidence, and take effective remedial to fix the problem. If after hours mold begins to grow in your dish, you may choose to send it to a lab for analysis. Here are three of the most popular mold test kits, what they include, and how to use them. Something else you can do is to check your water meter to determine if you might have a leak.

Mold usually grows in dark, damp, and humid areas such as your basement, walls, ceilings, floors, and around your air vents. Once mold spores in the air land on surfaces where there is moisture and organic matter that they can feed on, they will start to grow. We do not recommend at-home mold testing in place of professional assessments. However, if you're seeking at-home results to support an expert consultation, the test you choose will depend on the surface you are testing. You will likely use a mold test kit with tape strips to lift a sample for surface testing.

Let’s examine the types of mold you’re most likely to find in your home, the potential effects on your health, and how to get rid of mold. In fact, the main thing you should be worried about when testing for mold is the mold itself. If you are collecting direct samples of mold using the swab technique, wear gloves and a mask to reduce your exposure to the mold. Symptoms of mold sickness include stuffy nose, persistent coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes or skin, and wheezing.

Homeowners can search for “mold testing near me” to find a professional in their area who can detect and remove mold from the home. To be on the safe side, homeowners will want to have mold growth identified, treated, and removed quickly. Below are some of the more common types of mold that can be found in a home. When testing the air for mold, the best option is typically an air pump—such as the My Mold Detective MMD103 Mold Test Kit—that collects samples for evaluation in a laboratory. Keep in mind that testing your air for mold requires your test sample to be taken close to the original growth.

Should You Have Cheat Meals or Cheat Days?

cheat day design

You have to design your days to minimize the likelihood of encountering temptation at all. In point of fact, I urge everyone on the slow-carb diet to leverage the power of habit when making all their food choices. That way, you don't even have to call on the power of distraction to make sure you stay on the diet (much less the strategy of willpower). This is why, for example, I have scrambled eggs for breakfast and a chicken Caesar salad for lunch every weekday. Another option worth exploring is framing the cheat day as a time to continue with a balanced, healthy meal approach without tracking calories and macronutrients.

Both PEScience & Quest are a blend of whey protein & casein protein, which leads to a very thick result. Since most people tend to have whey protein, using that will work just fine in this oats recipe. If you’re looking to stay on track while eating your favorite foods, including fast food, I’m here to make it easier with countless menu nutrition guides. Slice and toast your protein bagel, fry up an egg, and top with some American cheese.

An Alternative To Willpower For Losing Weight

Don’t worry, if you DO prefer self-rising flour, the recipe includes directions for either. With cheat days or meals, it can be difficult for some people to know when to put on the brakes. This lack of self-control could end up making your diet goals less successful in the long run. The causes of obesity and the best methods for losing weight can be complex and will look different for everyone. Cheat meals can be effective for some to reduce overall caloric intake, as long as you’re careful not to overdo it on cheat days. For some people, cheat days or meals may be a great way to maintain overall healthier dietary habits — for others, a different approach may be more appropriate.

Vegan Protein Bagels

When using the cheat strategy, people will typically employ either a cheat meal or cheat day approach. As the names imply, a cheat meal is a single meal that veers from your planned diet pattern, while a cheat day allows for free food choices for an entire day. To make matters worse, a quick tour of social media will tell you that a lot of people aren’t exactly clear on what a “cheat day” is supposed to be. They actually make a whole day of it, consuming thousands upon thousands of calories worth of fast food, sweets, sugary drinks or other calorie-dense foods. While your metabolism may go up in the immediate aftermath of a splurge, it doesn’t stay that way for long enough to make a significant difference.

If you find yourself without any Greek yogurt for this recipe, check out the full experiment to find the best replacement. It turns out that not only does cottage cheese work amazingly well as a replacement, but it also creates a bagel that is arguably even fluffier. Don’t forget that if you want to grab some PEScience protein powder, my code “Matt” will save you 10% on any order. I was curious about what would happen if I swapped out a little bit of the flour for unflavored protein powder. Browse by category or use the calorie & macro sliders below to find the perfect macro-friendly recipe for your diet. I love all food, and I don’t believe we should ever restrict ourselves by eliminating any food that we love.

Hat design experience

Just because a food is deemed healthy doesn’t mean you’re required to eat it. Not to mention, eating foods you hate isn’t a requirement for reaching your health and weight loss goals. The cheat meal method could exacerbate eating-related issues for people dealing with food addiction tendencies, disordered eating or an inability to self-regulate eating habits.

Plus, with each batch containing at least 35 grams of protein, there may be no more delicious way to get your protein in. We have two protein bagel options to choose from, one that utilizes extra protein powder, and one that doesn't. The protein powder version tastes just as delicious and packs 19g of protein, but without it you will still have a solid 12g of protein.

Fast Food Fries: Calories & Macros From Every Restaurant To Find the Healthiest Options

I was careful to warn them—as I would warn you—that as straightforward as these steps seem in principle, they take consistent practice to implement effectively. So no longer do I count myself among physicians who believe that only the smallest subset of people can achieve and maintain weight loss in the long-term. Now I know that when it comes to the slow-carb diet—to dieting in general—judicious use of the principles of distraction, avoidance, and acceptance will dramatically increase your chances of success. This may sound obvious, but how many of us actually plan our days—actually alter our schedules—based on this principle? If you're serious about meeting your weight-loss goals but find your ability to resist carbs is poor, you can't just have a plan in place for distracting yourself when you meet with temptation.

One thing that can determine the success of your cheat dieting strategy is being mindful of what you’re eating — even when you’re having a cheat day. The cheat meal or day strategy could trigger unhealthy eating behaviors, especially in those who struggle with emotional eating, food addiction or eating disorders. Even a cheat meal or day should be approached healthfully and with a plan.

A common weight management theory is that with lower levels of circulating leptin, you’re more likely to overeat because you don’t have enough of the hormone sending you signals that you’re satisfied and full. Some research indicates that when someone experiences significant weight loss, leptin levels may decrease. Not everyone will respond the same way to the same strategies — the best diet plan is the one you can stick to. In this way, the cheat strategy is adaptable and can be implemented alongside many different diet patterns.

Mindful, or intuitive, eating is paying attention to your body’s hunger cues and eating when you’re hungry but stopping when you’re full or satisfied. It also involves slowing down while eating so that you can enjoy and savor your dining experience. Excessive focus on the superficial aspects of weight loss could be mentally damaging, as it can enhance feelings of anxiety and encourage disordered eating tendencies, especially among younger women (6, 7, 8). Because the cheat meal strategy is very popular among athletes and fitness enthusiasts on social media, an unrealistic portrayal of body image can be propagated, which may be harmful to vulnerable populations. While the cheat meal approach may work for some people, it could also have some potentially detrimental effects. Cheating within a diet plan involves giving yourself calculated, planned permission to temporarily break strict diet rules.

Some researchers theorize that the occasional cheat day improves your metabolic rate. While Taylor isn’t a fan of cheat days, there are some arguments that advocates make in their favor. Whether you’ve decided to reduce your sugar intake, you’re trying to reduce the number on the scale or you’re adjusting your diet to deal with a chronic health condition, changing your eating habits isn’t easy. And anyone who’s attempted to adjust their approach to eating can tell you that some days are easier than others.

Testing For Black Mold: A How-To Guide

how do i test for mold in my house

When people say “black mold,” they refer to Stachybotrys, a greenish-black mold that grows on damp material with a high cellulose content. In our homes, that includes wood, fiber or gypsum board, paper, fabric, or green insulation. Just because mold is black doesn’t mean it’s the dreaded Stachybotrys though, which by the way also manifests itself in blue and grey. But because Stachybotrys can off-gas dangerous mycotoxins, it’s the mold variety most feared. If you or a person in your household does not have a pre-existing respiratory condition such as asthma, then you should be fine with limited exposure. In fact, to some extent, we breathe in mold spores every day as we walk around outside.

Check for Plumbing Leaks

According to Legacy Land Trust, bleach is another means of testing for mold. If you suspect there is contamination behind drywall, poking a hole in it might expose spores behind it. Mold can cause health problems ranging from mild to severe, Poison notes. Respiratory issues, headaches, and allergies are just some of them. In addition, the fungi may damage your home, impacting your quality of life.

Before joining CR in 2016, he tested kitchen products at Good Housekeeping and covered tools and remodeling for This Old House magazine. You’ll typically find him in his old fixer-upper, engrossed in a DIY project or trying out a new recipe. Regardless of a model’s performance, CR recommends only those that do not include a 0-degree nozzle, which we believe poses an unnecessary safety risk to users and bystanders. If your pressure washer came with a red 0-degree nozzle, toss this nozzle out. The next size, a 15-degree nozzle, will do just fine for detail work, such as removing moss from the grooves between pavers.

Preparing to Test for Black Mold

A typical home, without any signs of water damage or excessive moisture, can still have anywhere between 1 and 1,500 mold spores per cubic meter of air. Elevated levels beyond this range might suggest water damage or an environment conducive to mold growth, warranting further inspection and possible remediation. There are DIY kits for black mold that determine the presence and type of mold while others only determine whether or not there is mold in the air. Some can be done exclusively DIY in your home, while others must be shipped to a lab. When shopping for a black mold testing kit, read what steps are involved and what results you will be given to find the best option for your situation. Checking the right places when testing your house for mold is important, especially if you can’t see any visible signs of mold in your house and you’ve experienced previous flooding.

It can check for many types of allergies simultaneously and provides results in about 20 minutes. When your immune system recognizes that you have come in contact with mold, which it identifies as harmful, it makes an antibody called immunoglobulin E (IgE). Reactions to mold depend on the degree to which you are sensitive to or allergic to mold.

Discolored spots on the walls and ceiling can also indicate mold, and up close, these spots may appear slimy or fuzzy.

However, take note that not all test kits are the same and are also not guaranteed to be always accurate. Moreover, most can only detect mold in your home and won’t tell you what to do about your mold infestation problem. You will still need a professional to help you assess, remediate, and remove mold in your home effectively. In fact, some species can begin growing within hours, provided there's a source of wetness and organic matter. So basically, where there's moisture there’s an opportunity for mold,' explains Michael Rubino, a toxic mold expert and founder of HomeCleanse.

Air tests can find mold even if you don’t see or can’t find a visible area of mold growth. You can’t always tell the difference between types of mold without testing. Fortunately, you don’t need to know the type of mold to get rid of it. If you do not see any mold but want to check for sure, order an at-home test kit. You may also want to order a kit if you see mold and need to identify it for health or legal reasons. The latter is best if you are only interested in confirming the presence of mold, and aren’t concerned with identification.

South End Plumbing, Heating, & Air Expert Tips

Bulk tests can tell you if you have a mold problem and provide you a plan based on the concentration of the mold in the house. If you’re worried about mold, it’s worth it to get a total and accurate inspection and the best result possible. One test in one place might only give you info about mold in that certain place and time. It can be different types of mold in different places in a home or it can change in a relatively short time based on season or conditions. If you have a mold allergy or chronic lung condition such as asthma, you’re at risk of more severe symptoms and complications.

Once mold spores get inside, they can grow in the right conditions. Mold can cause health problems, especially for those with allergies or asthma. To avoid mold in your house, take action to eliminate it yourself or hire a professional if needed. All these kits can tell you on their own is whether some kind of mold is present in high enough concentrations to be worrying. You will need to send the samples to a lab to discover what kind of mold it is.

how do i test for mold in my house

Here are a few less common places where mold may grow in your home. In cases of severe mold infestation or if you are sensitive to mold, it may be best to contact professional mold remediation services. These experts have the tools and techniques to safely and thoroughly remove mold from large areas or from within HVAC systems, ensuring that it does not return. Under certain conditions, some types of mold can produce secondary toxins called mycotoxins. Exposure to mycotoxins can increase your risk of more serious illness from mold exposure. Finding out about mold in an indoor environment could be a good part of an overall indoor air quality test, which is a good idea in general.

Keep in mind that the testing fee for each sample is $39, and you’ll also pay the cost of shipping the samples to the AIHA-accredited (American Industrial Hygiene Association) lab. Notably, you can reuse the air pump for future mold testing, as well. It may be important to know if there is mold and what type of mold species there is in a house.

Even without knowing about all the terrible consequences it entails, mold spores can frighten anyone. But it’s much more than just an ugly black pattern on your walls, ceiling, or floor. It can cause a variety of health issues, as well as damage our property and belongings if not detected and remediated in time.

If there is visible mold anywhere in the home, it won’t be necessary to test for mold before cleaning it or hiring one of the best mold removal companies. According to Peissinger, “Mold testing is not necessary in the vast majority of cases. If mold is visible, it should be cleaned up properly.” She recommends consulting EPA guidelines to find out how to remove mold safely. However, it’s highly recommended to call a professional inspector who specializes in testing for mold in a house for an accurate assessment on the severity of the mold problem. The typical cost of a mold inspection is between $295 and $1,010, with a national average of $648.

This was thought to be because black mold spores release toxic compounds called mycotoxins. However, experts generally agree that black mold is not linked to an increased risk of specific health issues. Whether you’re experiencing some of the above symptoms or just want to know if your home is free of mold, testing for mold in your house is a fairly simple process. However, keep in mind — treating mold is a much more difficult process.

There are other strategies you may want to consider in conjunction with cheat meals to better support your unique personal needs long-term. Whether or not implementing a cheat meal diet strategy is the right choice depends on the individual. Remember that the best, most effective diet plan is one that you can stick to over time. Research shows that people who use food as a coping mechanism may be more susceptible to binge eating (5). A major concern with the cheat meal or day strategy is the potential for it to encourage a binge-style eating behavior.

The best eating plan is the one that (1) you can stick to and (2) that doesn’t rob you of the joy of eating. Whether you choose to go with the original protein bagels, or the version with extra protein (my personal favorite), the process for making these protein bagels will be exactly the same. These protein bagels can be whipped up and ready to eat in under 30 minutes and require only a few key ingredients, which has made them a staple in my weekend breakfast rotation. Above we have my high-protein oatmeal cream pies alongside a Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie, and while you can clearly see some differences, they are very similar. My healthier high-protein oatmeal cream pies are packed with so much more flavor, and if I’m being 100% honest, I like them significantly more. I asked my Instagram audience to give me some ideas for snacks for me to try to recreate as a high-protein version, and oatmeal cream pies were the runaway favorite.

Not that getting ourselves to engage in a behavior consistently enough to turn it into a habit is easy. For one thing, the time required to establish a new habit varies tremendously, in one study taking anywhere from 18 to 254 days. For another, and not surprisingly, the more complex the desired behavior, the longer turning it into a habit seems to take, decreasing the likelihood that we can turn it into a habit at all. In the sports world, the Houston Astros (and 2017 World Series champions) have been penalized for stealing catchers’ signs and relaying these to their own batters over the course of two seasons.

When you’re ready to assemble these oatmeal cream pies, you’re going to make a very simple vanilla filling by mixing together whipped vanilla frosting with a small amount of vanilla protein powder. Incorporating foods that you enjoy even when you’re not having a cheat day can be a great tool for making your diet feel like less of a chore. It can also help you maintain more self-control during both diet and cheat days. Implementing a plan for cheat days — just as you do on regular dieting days — is a good way to stay on track. This means that even though you’re allowing yourself to consume foods you normally wouldn’t, you can still maintain control over the situation. It’s well known that if you eat fewer calories than you burn, weight loss is likely to occur.

Some days, you just want to “break the rules” and eat whatever you want. To make overnight oats high-protein, I use a combination of Greek yogurt and protein powder. The Greek yogurt acts as a great thickening agent that you can’t even taste (along with a perfect way to sneak in some extra protein) and the protein powder both thicken the oats and adds great flavor. Check out my full protein bagel experiment to see which yogurt worked the best. Of the twenty or so patients of mine who abandoned the slow carb diet, fourteen agreed to try it again once I introduced them to my 7-point plan.

Some find that the prospect of indulging helps them stay disciplined the rest of the time — and there’s some research to suggest that “planned hedonic deviations” really can help us stay on track. The best part about protein overnight oats (outside of them being a great source of protein) is that they are very forgiving. Since there is no heating involved, you can get creative with your ingredients. No matter what your taste buds prefer, I promise you there is a protein overnight oats recipe here for you.

Watch out, Little Debbie, because these protein-packed oatmeal cream pies are even better than your classic Oatmeal Creme Pies. Combining these types of eating approaches with your diet may support your ability to stick to your diet plan more easily and successfully. Furthermore, it may help prevent you from going overboard during more indulgent cheat meals.

The argument against cheat days

At the end of the day, working toward a healthier diet or lifestyle should be about making sustainable changes that meet your unique needs and tastes — there is no one-size-fits-all approach. From there, you can also plan to maintain portion control, even with more indulgent foods. For example, plan to have one or two slices of pizza instead of sitting down with the whole pie. Early research indicates that mindful and intuitive eating approaches may help to reduce tendencies of emotional and binge eating.

Below, we list the ten best freelance hat designers available for hire, and how to choose the one best for your brand. Hackwith Design House began in 2010 with the goal of making long-lasting and versatile clothing that is as unique as its wearer. To this day, we continue to release limited editions and limited run garments.

These oatmeal creme pies are surprisingly easy to make, and you won’t need to bother with letting your cookie dough chill, creaming butter & sugar, or any other “fancy” baking methods. Incorporating other dieting strategies into cheat meals or days can help support your ability to stick to your goals. Having a plan for cheat days, incorporating mindful eating practices and including foods that you enjoy on diet days are some examples. The incorporation of cheat meals or cheat days into a diet plan has been popular among fitness enthusiasts for some time, but it’s now making its way into mainstream diet culture by way of social media. “Cheat days,” as they’re commonly called, are a subject of considerable debate among dietitians, especially when it comes to eating to support weight loss. Others say that needing a cheat day is probably a sign that your current eating plan — and possibly your relationship with food — needs rethinking.

This almost certainly explains why most of my patients who gave up the diet told me that when they would come across a tempting carb during the week, too often their wills weren't strong enough to resist it. When they found themselves confronted with a piece of pie, a brownie, or a bagel—especially if it was near the end of the day—they'd end up eating it almost as often as they'd pass it by. It didn't take too many weeks of failing this way for them to become discouraged and give up.

Cheating should not mean you ignore hunger and satiety cues under the assumption that you can eat as much as you want of any food on your cheat day. Understanding your motives for eating desired cheat foods ensures that you’re choosing the healthiest approach to weight loss for your individual needs. Successful and sustained weight loss is about more than eating fewer calories than you burn in a day.

Alaska Cruises 2024-2025 Award-Winning Cruises to Alaska

october alaska cruise

Normally 2-4 park rangers board the ship to provide highly enriching commentary and programming, to stamp your national park passport book, and to offer educational resources and souvenir merchandise. By the time our cruise ship arrived in late October, their season was already over. While all travel has environmental and cultural impacts, cruising leaves its mark to varying degrees on Alaska's fragile ecosystems. The average large cruise ship can have a carbon footprint greater than 12,000 cars and produce up to a ton of trash each day. While there can be a positive economic impact on ports of call, a small community visited by 15,000 people per day during sailing season can intrinsically change. No matter which itineraries you choose to sail on from Seattle or Vancouver, the best way to maximize your Alaska cruise is with a CruiseTour.

QUANTUM OF THE SEAS

The immediate port area will be filled with tourist shops and eateries. If you want to see nature at its finest, you must book a tour or venture farther afield. Alaska cruises offer a wide range of activities in port, with options for active travelers, wildlife lovers, history buffs and shoppers. Whether you're traveling with young kids or require more sedentary recreation, the Alaska cruise ports won't disappoint. These cruise lines, especially on their newer ships, offer something for everyone — as well as a higher caliber of onboard dining than on the cheapest cruises. On a cruisetour, you'll sail on a one-way Gulf of Alaska cruise, so your cruise starts or ends in Alaska.

Princess wilderness lodges

Alaska is a primarily summer destination; over 90% of people visit Alaska during the summer season between the end of May and mid-September. This means that cruising during the summer is a very popular – and pricey – activity, and will probably give you some sticker shock even if you find a good deal. You’ll also have a chance to visit the incredible Butchart Gardens, witness glaciers, pan for gold, hike through temperate rainforests, and much more.

Ketchikan

Rainfall slows down a bit in June, with about 13 days of the month having some precipitation. Temperature is relative, so don’t be shocked if you see an Alaskan sporting shorts and a tank top in June. The 60s can feel downright tropical after winter temperatures in the 20s and 30s. A hat, gloves, and a winter coat would be a good idea to pack for an Alaskan cruise, especially if you depart in April, May, or September. The high temperature in May in the capital city of Juneau, averages in the mid-50s, with lows in the 40s. There are also amazing birds, including bald eagles and land animals like mountain goats, Dall sheep, and brown and black bears.

A limited number of cruises in October (predominantly on Norwegian Cruise Line) make it possible for cruisers to experience a taste of Alaska in winter without sub-zero temperatures. You will want to bundle up; the average temperature in Juneau in October is 39 degrees. Mid-to-late September is one of the best times to spot wildlife in Alaska. Bears will be hunting for the last of the berries and salmon, and caribou, deer and moose will be mating. Summer is the height of the Alaska cruise season, which means crowds in port towns, especially when several ships are in port at the same time. You might have to wait hours for a table at Tracy's King Crab Shack in Juneau.

A day aboard the 86-passenger Wilderness Legacy might start out with a hike to a glacial lake followed by an early-evening kayak adventure in Thomas Bay. Or, you might enjoy a bit of scenic cruising by LeConte Glacier (where the big ships don't go) then continue the fun with hiking and biking the trails of Ideal Cove. Guided skiff tours will take guests in search of Alaskan wildlife in remote bays and secret coves. Ovation of the Seas sails round-trip from Seattle on seven-night cruises, but the exact itinerary varies by week. The ship cruises Endicott Arm for scenic views of Dawes Glacier and typically visits three Alaska ports and Victoria. We have more Alaska cruise port departures featuring Glacier Bay National Park than any other cruise line.

By the end of September, there are less than 12 hours of daylight in Juneau. The loss of daylight does mean you could see the Aurora Borealis while cruising to Alaska in late August. The best time to see the Northern Lights is between late August and April, typically peaking in March. For cruise itineraries in Alaska, August high temperatures will be somewhere in the upper 50s and low 60s. We’ve reached the pinnacle of summer temperatures, and the rainier season has just begun. If you cruise to Alaska this month, you can enjoy more shop and restaurant options in port towns but expect things to be slightly more crowded.

If you want to cruise Alaska but also see some of the interior and enjoy a stay in a lodge or hotel, go for a cruisetour package from either Holland America or Princess Cruises. Both have fantastic itineraries that take passengers not only to the Inside Passage, but also to Anchorage, Denali National Park, the Yukon, Kenai Peninsula, Talkeetna and Fairbanks. When you want to go will depend on which activities you want to do, how you feel about cool weather and rain, and the price.

october alaska cruise

If you've ever dreamed of visiting Alaska, there's no better way to explore the state than on a cruise. Norwegian Cruise Line has been cruising to Alaska for decades and offers some of the best itineraries available. Our lineup of 2022 Alaska cruises includes varying trip lengths and a wide selection of shore excursions.

If you are in port, you’ll get to see how Alaskans take advantage of the Midnight Sun with locals out biking, hiking, and fishing at all hours of the night. Another thing to keep in mind when deciding the best month for your Alaskan cruise is wildlife viewing opportunities. Arguably, the biggest draw is the marine animals, with opportunities to see pods of humpback whales, gray whales, orcas, sea lions, sea otters, and more. Because of its latitude, Alaska experiences extremes in daylight in the summer and darkness in the winter. The benefits of cruising in April include less expensive pricing, fewer tourists, and less crowded ports.

Explore fjords, glaciers and Gold Rush-era towns on weekend voyages out of Seattle. Keep an eye out for seabirds and songbirds, seals, Steller sea lions and humpback whales. Marine life is so prolific that some small-boat shore excursions guarantee you will see animals. Bears will be fishing; in late August, they will be looking for blueberries, which also become a featured item on restaurant menus. Most cruise passengers will head to Alaska between Memorial Day in late May and Labor Day in early September when temperatures range from slightly chilly to warm during the long daylight hours. Tourist attractions are in full swing, salmon swim upriver and bears (and humans) have access to fishing.

In this post, I share a month-by-month guide about the best time of year for an Alaskan cruise. I’ve included tips on the weather, wildlife, daylight, and the general experience you’ll have each month of the Alaska cruise season to determine when to set sail for the 49th state. For those voyagers seeking to sail from Southern California all the way up the Pacific coast to Alaska, try a new 16-day roundtrip Inside Passage voyage from Los Angeles. During the cruise season, popular cruise lines assist travelers in enjoying all of the unique sights, wildlife, excursions, events and food. If you prefer warmer temperatures, ranging from 50° to 70° Fahrenheit, and longer days with up to 22 hours of sunlight, a summer Alaskan cruise might be the perfect choice. For the most midnight sun, travel 3 weeks before or after June 21, the summer solstice.

However, if Alaska is a one-time bucket list itinerary for you, I’d avoid October (you might get lucky like I did, but the odds are against it). If I only had one shot at Alaska, I’d go in July (maybe August) on either Holland America or Princess on an itinerary that includes Glacier Bay. The Alaska cruise season is a little over six months long, but choosing the best time to cruise Alaska is surprisingly not that simple.

Depending on the tour itinerary you choose, you might visit Seward and the Kenai Peninsula, Alyeska, Talkeetna, Anchorage and Fairbanks — as well as spend one to three nights in Denali National Park. Most sail along the Inside Passage, a maritime route along the state's southern coast (and into British Columbia and Washington state) that weaves around the area's thousand islands. Some venture farther north into the Gulf of Alaska; these are often one-way cruises that begin and end at the ports near Anchorage. Restaurant prices in Alaska can be high, but a cruise bundles meals, accommodations and transportation into one price that, with sales, can be cheaper than you'd think. Whether you're interested in hiking through a forest, trekking to glaciers or a shopping spree downtown, the towns along Alaska's inside passage provide a variety of adventurous activities.

Temperatures are pleasant — in the 60s and sometimes higher, with wildflowers in bloom and glaciers calving. Anglers will find opportunities to reel in halibut along with king and sockeye salmon and rainbow trout. In addition to humpbacks, you might also spot belugas and seals with their pups as you sail. To truly enjoy an Alaskan cruise, cruisers can visit from April to October when daylight hours, weather and wildlife are better. For a more physically intense experience, considering hiking Seward Exit Glacier or the Harding Icefield Trail. When traveling from Vancouver in the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska, the waters are mostly protected and provide smooth sailing.

Most itineraries are seven nights, but you'll find a handful that are longer. One nice thing about the Inside Passage is how calm the water is because you're sailing between land masses. If you worry about seasickness, an Inside Passage trip is the best Alaska cruise itinerary versus a sailing where your ship transits rougher, open waters. You'll find magnificent mountains (often snowcapped, even in the summertime), lush forests, waterfalls, fjords and calving glaciers. If it's marine life you've come to see, you'll find it in abundance, from whales and dolphins to sea lions and harbor seals.

What to Expect on an Alaskan Cruise in April

For example, you could pick a 16-day cruise that goes from Alaska to Hawaii or one that goes from Seattle to Tokyo, both in October when the Alaskan cruise season is ending. The cruise season beefs up in June, with the number of ships growing and the season in full swing by the end of the month. The midnight sun means many hours of daylight, especially on June 20, the longest day of the year — when you'll have to stay up late to see any darkness at all. I cruise to Alaska so many times every year that I’ve started telling people I summer there.

As your ship reaches the Inside Passage, the early morning views outside of your room are breathtaking. Be sure to pack high-quality rain gear for excursions along with warm, layered clothing and a hat and gloves.
